FACTS: Royal Town Of Bobovac |
Raised by Governor Stjepan II. Kotromanić in the first half of the 14th century, Bobovac remained the throne of Bosnian kings up until the end of Bosnian autonomy. It was year 1463, when Turkish Empire occupied Bosnia. First mention of Bobovac in written documents goes back to the year 1349. Bobovac was safe keeper of Bosnian royal crown, housing royal chapel in which three of Bosnian kings were buried: Stjepan Ostoja, Tvrtko II. Kotromanić, and Stjepan Tomaš. Due to its geostrategic, military and political significance Bobovac was a highly endangered aim of foreign conquerors. It fell to Ottoman Empire after only three days of fighting and stayed under its control until 1626. With the Ottoman Empire expansions to the North Bobovac lost its strategic importance and thus stayed in the background. The royal chapel has been restored and today houses Mausoleum of Kotromanić Dinasty. |
